A member of the Black Stars coach search committee, Kojo Addae-Mensah has revealed that it was not an easy decision to settle on Otto Addo as the new Black Stars coach.
The Databank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was named to replace Ace Ankomah to help recommend a coach to the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The decision was made after Chris Hughton was sacked after a horrendous performance by the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
However, after over a month of thorough search, Otto Addo has been reappointed as the coach of the senior national team.
Reflecting on the job of the search committee, Mr Addae-Mensah said it was a tough job to get a new coach for the senior national team despite vast experience working in the corporate environment.
“It was very tedious. I am tough and I have done corporate work for 30 years but this job of getting a coach for the Black Stars was not easy,” he told Kumasi-based LUV FM.
Otto Addo has been offered a 34-month deal with an option of a 24-month deal. He has named Morrocan-German trainer Joseph Laumann and John Paintsil as first and second assistant coaches with Fatawu Dauda serving as the goalkeeper’s trainer.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo has announced a 26-man squad for Black Stars’ friendly games against Nigeria and Uganda later this month in Morocco.
