Jamie Vardy's Surprise 8th Finish in Ballon d'Or Vote Places Him Ahead of World Superstars

Published on: 12 December 2016

Jamie Vardyappears very much to still be having a party.

Some of theguests may have made excuses andleft, the police may have been called and not all of the household appliances have survived the night, but there's a new playlist on, someone's dusted off twister and everyone has stopped looking at their watches and come back to the living room.

Following on from his stunning hat trick against Manchester City, Leicester's front manhas officially been named the eighth best footballer (cue Jeremy Clarkson voice)in the world.

At France Football's annual gala of putting people in order, Cristiano Ronaldo stunned no-one by being named Ballon d'Or winnerfor the fourth time, and even fewer people with his humility-free comments after.

La Liga stars filled out the entire top six, with Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann completing the top three and Luis Suarez, Neymar and (highest-placed Brit)Gareth Bale following behind in a very forward-heavy selection.

Well done, @vardy7! https://t.co/kMHU9Esmil

Vardy, who came a place behind teammate and PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez, was the highest placed Englishman and the only Jamie ever to feature in the awards... I can only assume.

While Stocksbridge Park Steels' most famous alumnus demonstrablybeat out most players (and indeed allhumans) to claim his eighth placefinish, some were more amusing than others.

Poor Zlatan Ibrahimovic was only voted into 12th place by the French mag, whilePaul Pogba managed a paltry14th,Robert Lewandowski 16th and Luka Modric 17th.

Reports thatThomas Mullerand Diego Godin were reportedly seen bitterly checking Wikipedia for Vardy stats, after both failed to garner a single vote, are yet to be confirmed.

As if you need reminding,Vardy netted 24 in 36 last season on the way to Leicester's still baffling Premier League victory, breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy's consecutive scoring record in the process.

This season has, if not been a bump back down to Earth, then definitely a skirting of its atmosphere as Vardy and co have struggled to replicate the heroics of last term.

Prior to the hat trick against Manchester City, Vardy had scored just two league goals this campaign and has yet to trouble the scoresheet in the Champions League.
