Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira has disclosed that Jesurun Rak-Sakyi's move to English Football League One side Charlton Athletic was the best option for the youngster.

The 19-year-old joined the Addicks on a season long loan from the Eagles after successful negotiations.

Rak-Sakyi made two Premier League appearances last season and has been capped by England U20s, scoring on his debut in September 2021.

"It’s a decision we had to make as a football club because he needs to go to the next step and to grow as a player," said Vieira of Rak-Sakyi heading out on loan.

"He needs to play games week in and week out.

"This [going to Charlton] is the best option for him. He is going to be in a really good football club with a really good manager that he can work with and have game time [from] to help him grow as a player."

Rak-Sakyi arrived in SE7 on the back of an impressive 2021/22 Premier League 2 campaign, finishing as the division's joint-top scorer with 18 goals and registering six assists.

He became Charlton’s seventh signing of the summer following the arrivals of Eoghan O’Connell, Mandela Egbo, Joe Wollacott, Conor McGrandles, Steven Sessegnon and Jack Payne.
