Jordan Ayew faces fight for Swansea City place from Chelsea youngster

Having scored 26 goals in 48 games for a Bristol City side that finished 17th in the Championship last season, it is easy to see why Tammy Abraham was one of the most in-demand signings of the summer.

While parent club Chelsea still regard him as a bright prospect for the future after reportedly tying him down to a long-term contract recently, the 19-year-old will spend the upcoming season out on loan once again in order to hone his skills in a first-team setting.

Despite interest from Newcastle United and Brighton, Swansea City were able to clinch a deal for the England Under-21 star thanks partly to manager Paul Clement’s strong links to Stamford Bridge.

After fighting hard for his signature, the former Blues assistant manager will be keen to see his faith rewarded with goals, particularly given the Swans’ overreliance on Fernando Llorente last season.

Although the Spaniard struck 15 in the league to help steer his side clear of relegation, the next-highest scorer was midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson on nine.

With fellow strikers Jordan Ayew and the now departed Borja Baston having scored just once each, any support Abraham could offer would go a long way to strengthening the attack.

However, considering he has just two substitute appearances and no goals in the top flight to his name, the youngster certainly represents something of a gamble for Clement.

This is reflected in bet365’s odds on the Chelsea loanee hitting double figures in the Premier League, with the same price available for him to fail to break that barrier.

Given the large number of prolific Championship goalscorers that have failed to adjust to the more rigorous demands of the Premier League in the past, the safest bet seems to be in backing the untried forward to score under 9.5 goals for the campaign.
