Jose Mourinho Planning £25m Raid on Former Club Chelsea in Hunt for Out of Favour Attacking Star

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to make a statement in the January transfer window by attempting to move for current Chelsea Player of the Year Willian, according to theExpress.

The Brazilian was an integral part of the Chelsea team that won the Premier League title under Mourinho in 2015, and he also performed last season in spite of the Blues' poor campaign overall. Willian is however having trouble finding his way into new manager Antonio Conte's team, as his playing style doesn't seem to suit Chelsea's new 3-4-3 system.

Former Barcelona star Pedro has been favoured in the role on the right side of the attack in recent weeks, and the club are currently performing so well that Willian is struggling to make his way back in to the fold. He hasn't made a league start since the beginning of October.

Mourinho knows of the 28-year-old's qualities and could be set to make a move of around £25m to test the waters and see if Chelsea will do business. Despite the fact the player only signed a new four-year contract in July, the Blues may well be tempted into cashing in in order to strengthen other areas of the squad.

United have also been linked with moves for James Rodriguez and Antoine Griezmann recently, though Mourinho is believed to be prioritising strengthening his defence in the new year.
