Paul Heckingbottom is set to be named new manager of Leeds United.

Thomas Christiansen was axed on Sunday night in the wake of Saturday's crushing 4-1 home defeat to Cardiff.

Former Newcasle United boss Steve McClaren had emerged as the favourite for the Elland Road post having been in the stands on Saturday.

But Leeds have moved for Heckingbottom.

They have activated his buy-out clause at Barnsley, believed to be close to £500,000, with an appointment expected in the next 48 hours, says the Mirror.
