Vardy has applauded those who have stepped forward in recent times, as he believes that their statements will provide a platform for something to be done about it.

"It's sickening to know what's been going off and the ordeals the victims have been through and are still going through. It's not nice at all," Vardy said toGood Morning Britain (H/TITV).

"To be honest with you we're lucky that some have come out and spoken about it so we can get something done about it."

Vardy also hit out at former world darts champion Eric Bristow, who referred to footballers as 'wimps' regarding the new revelations.

"Might be a looney but if some football coach was touching me when I was a kid as I got older I would have went back and sorted that poof out," he said.

"Dart players tough guys footballers wimps".

Bristow has since been dropped from his role as a Sky Sports pundit, but insists that he was only making a joke.

"It's just a joke of a comment," said Vardy. "It's disgusting, if you think it's that easy.

"You've seen the ordeals that they've gone through, when they've spoken about it. It's obviously not been easy to come out and speak about it and to say something like that, especially a person in his position, is beyond a joke."
