Barcelona star Lionel Messi could be in line to break Cristiano Ronaldo's Champions League goalscoring record in a fortnight's time when his side meetBorussia Monchengladbach at Camp Nou.

The prolific 29-year-old scored another brace on Wednesdayto dump Celtic out of the Champions League, putting his Champions Leaguetally for the season up to nine.

Messi opened the scoring with a superbly struck volley in the first-halfbefore doubling Barca's advantage from the penalty spot in the second-half at Celtic Park.

That means that he is just two goals away from breaking Cristiano Ronaldo's record, which he set by scoring 11 goals in the group stages last season.

Ronaldo meanwhile hasn't done quite as well for Madrid in Europe this season, scoring just twice in five appearances, to his credit though he has provided four assists.

So it's up to Messi to perform in the final group game, although Luis Enrique may decide to rest the Argentine forward due to playing El Clasico just three days before on December 3rd.
