Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Confirms Philippe Coutinho Will Miss Rest of 2016 With Ankle Injury

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopphas confirmed attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho will be out of action for up to six weeks with an ankle problem.


Coutinho suffered the blow against Sunderland, and underwent a scan on Monday to reveal the extent of the injury. He is now set to be out of action until the new year, and Klopp revealed the Reds will be without their star man for the short term future.

Phil needs between five and a few weeks until we have him back. We will see. He is not in for tonight and for the next few games," Klopp BBC Radio 5 Live as reported byLiverpool's official club website.


In regards to Liverpool's EFL Cup tie with Leeds United on Tuesday, Klopp revealed Roberto Firmino was out of contention after picking up a knock at the weekend.


Roberto [Firmino] couldn't play," the former Borussia Dortmund manager continued.

The same with Joel Matip and a few other players had all the games until now “ we can bring in fresh legs, especially in defence.


In attack, we have not that number of options anymore but I'm fine with the options we have. So we start with this line-up, we have a strong bench and we want to go to the semis.�


Liverpool will also be without Daniel Sturridge for the cup tie, so Divock Origi, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum will likely be utilised as the side's most attacking outlets. Liverpool are among the favourites for the competition, with Arsenal taking on Southampton andManchester United hosting West Ham on Wednesday. Hull host Newcastle in Tuesday's other match.
