Liverpool Defender Says Reds Are Their Own Toughest Opponents in Title Race

Published on: 30 October 2016

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has insisted that the Reds aren't afraid of any of their big-name rivals for the Premier League title this season, but admitted that a reduction in mistakes will be vital if the Merseysiders are going to sit top of the table come May.

Lovren's careless back-pass cost his side a goal and some precious momentum against Crystal Palace on the weekend, but the Croatian made up for his mistake with a powerful header past Steve Mandandajust a couple of minutes later.

Quoted by theMirrorover the weekend, Lovren admitted:I think we have shown this year that we can play against the big teams, we are not scared. It's just....I think the biggest opponent for us is us.

If you want to be in the top four at the end of the season or be champion, you need to win the smaller games like today and even the next game against Watford. And then we will see against the big teams.

Dejan Lovren: Having failed to score in 50 league appearances in his first two seasons for Liverpool, Lovren has scored 2 in 8 this season

It was a game with ups and downs, especially the first half. I was angry. Iwas definitely angry. The lads asked me in the dressing room ˜what did you want to do when you scored the goal'. I said I wanted to jump into the crowd. I don't know why.

Yeah, in with the Palace fans. I don't know, just to be....I didn't know what to do. I would say I didn't deserve this, you know.I said to myself it's not possible, I am working too hard to do a mistake and to lose the game. I just forgot and I keep on moving on and I said I was angry and I wanted to score the goal.
