Liverpool Hoping to Lure Schalke Midfielder to Anfield in the Summer

Liverpool are rumoured to be interested in bringing Schalke's Leon Goretzka to Anfield, with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp thought to be a fan.

The German midfielder has made nineteen appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals. He has also made three appearances for the German national team, making his debut in 2014.

Goretzka is seen as a future star in Germany, and that view is shared by the 22-year-old's former manager at VFL Bochum, Peter Neururer, who has said to Sport Bild (viaSB Nation):

"The boy is on his way to being world class,

But it will be hard for Schalke to keep him because the boy has to play internationally on a regular basis in order to develop and keep getting chances for Germany.

Bayern Munich are thought to be interested in Goretzka, although Schalke are not keen on selling to a German rival, which opens the door for Liverpool.

Yet the Reds form in 2017 has put their place in next season's Champions League in doubt, making Goretzka's potential move to the club uncertain.

Liverpool have won only one league game in 2017, meaning they have gone from title contenders to a side battling to make the top-four. Monday's 3-1 defeat to champions Leicestermeans they will drop to sixth in the table if Manchester United win their game in-hand.
