Liverpool Readying New Contract for Philippe Coutinho in Order to Scare Off Increasing Interest

Liverpool are reportedly set to offer their star man Philippe Coutinho a new and improved contract in order to secure his future at the club, with interest from Europe's elite intensifying.

The Brazilian international has quickly become one of the most wanted players in Europe after his scintillating start for the Reds this season, producing five goals and five assists from midfield, and has attracted serious attention from the likes of Spanish giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

Further reports also suggest that Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are keen to bring the playmaker to the club as a like-for-like switch for ageing midfielder David Silva, even though coach Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to sell to a Premier League title rival, in contrast to previous boss Brendan Rodgers, who allowed Raheem Sterling to join the Citizens for £50m in 2015.

However, according to theDaily Star, the 24-year-old is set to be offered a new deal by the Merseyside club in order to scare off any potential bidders, making him their highest-paid player on around £150k-a-week, despite rumours that they would be willing to listen to offers of £90m.

Coutinho is currently on the treatment table recovering from an ankle ligament injury suffered against Sunderland last month, and will be out until the new year, where he hopes to make his Premier League return to spearhead Klopp's title surge against current leaders Chelsea.
