Liverpool Reportedly Tracking Bayer Leverkusen Starlet Ahead of Potential January Move

Liverpool are reportedly running the rule over Julian Brandt with the view to making a move for him in January, according to German news outlet Express.

The Bayer Leverkusen star is said to be high on Reds boss Jurgen Klopp's transfer wishlist ahead of the January window opening as the German plots adding attacking reinforcements to his first-team squad.

The 20-year-old only joined Leverkusen from Wolfsburg's Under-19 set up in January 2014 for a reported £300k, but he has lit up the Bundesliga with a series of highly impressive performances in his two-and-a-half spell at the BayArena.

Klopp could now look to sanction a move for Brandt as early as January as he eyes further competition for a forward line that has already fired the Reds to the top of the Premier League after just 11 matches this term.

The likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho have all helped Liverpool score the highest number of goals in England's top flight, but Klopp is keen to ease the burden on his stars by bringing in further quality as the Merseysiders launch a title challenge even at this early stage of the campaign.

Brandt has already amassed over 100 appearances for Leverkusen, with 17 goals and 18 assists plundered in that time, and his form has led to other top European sides such as Bayern Munich and Manchester City to monitor his situation.

Brandt's agent and father, however, said he believes his son will not force a move from Leverkusen in the near future, and backed the 20-year-old - who is contracted until the summer of 2019 - to make the right decision when the time came to it.

He said: "Of course there is interest, but there are no negotiations or pre-discussions with other clubs. Julian decides what he is doing. This is often a decision of the belly, in which timing also plays an important role. "

Klopp is also thought to still be interested in a possible January swoop for Brandt's Leverkusen team mate and centre back Jonathan Tah.
