Liverpool target Keita unlikely to extend contract confirms RB Leipzig director

Published on: 03 August 2017

RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick admitted that Naby Keita is not guaranteed to re-sign with the club beyond his current deal, which expires in 2020.

The Guinean midfielder has been pursued by Liverpool this summer, but the Bundesliga have remained defiant that he would not be sold, given the club's upcoming debut Champions League campaign.

But Rangnick isn't quite sure where the long term future lies with the 21-year old.

"I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely," Rangnick told Bild.

"I can assure you that Naby will be playing with us this season. All other scenarios also depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays himself and so on."
