Liverpool veteran James Milner: We\'re all here to win trophies

Published on: 19 November 2017

Liverpool veteran James Milner is eager to win silverware before retirement.

Milner, Liverpool's vice-captain, is reminded of the club's glorious past every day in training when he comes face-to-face with an endless glittering collection of trophies.

He said: “Winning trophies is what football is all about. You look back at your career and while it is nice to have played in particular games and things like that, ultimately it's about winning trophies.

“I look at the trophies I've won but also the finals I've lost and missed opportunities. You want that hunger and that's why one of the biggest disappointments I've had in my career since I've been here at Liverpool is when we lost the Europa League final in 2016.

“I joined Liverpool because we all know the history of the club. But maybe they haven't won as many trophies as they would have liked in recent history.

“I want to be part of something that kick starts that again. I know how hungry everyone at the club is to win more trophies.

“Every day you walk into Melwood or at Anfield and you see the trophies on the wall. Before I leave this football club I definitely want to make someone come in and change those numbers on that wall by the dressing room. We've certainly got the squad to do that."
