Lucas Vazquez Pledges Future to Real Madrid By Agreeing to Sign 5-Year Contract Extension

Published on: 25 October 2016

Lucas Vazquez has committed his future to Real Madrid after he agreed to sign a five-year contract extension with the La Liga giants.

Los Blancos announced that Vazquez would now remain at the Bernabeu until June 2021 on their official website on Wednesday, with the 25-year-old due to face the media in the afternoon to field questions relating to his deal being extended.

Vazquez broke into the first team set up at Real after enjoying a season-long loan spell with La Liga rivals Espanyol who, after initially signing him permanently on June 3 2015, sold him back to Real a mere 27 days later for almost double the transfer fee that they paid for him.

The winger, who is comfortable playing on either flank, has registered five goals and 13 assists in 44 appearances for Real's senior side since making his full debut in September 2015.

Vazquez was part of the Real Madrid squad that triumphed over city rivals Atletico in last season's Champions League final to secure an 11th European Cup, before helping Zinedine Zidane's men win the UEFA Supercup after they beat Sevilla 3-2 on August 9.

Vazquez has become the latest Real Madrid player to pledge his allegiance to the club after midfield duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, who recently signed four and five year contract extensions respectively. Talks over lengthening superstar pairing Gareth Bale's and Cristiano Ronaldo's contracts are also ongoing at Real.
