Luis Enrique Refuses to Comment on Speculation That Barcelona Have Issued Contract Ultimatum

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has refused to be drawn on speculation regarding his contract situation at the club.

Enrique is yet to sign a new deal at the club, and there has been speculation that the Barcelona board have issued date by which Enrique mustsign a contract renewal. However, speaking toSportahead of his side's La Liga clash with Villarreal, Enrique denied that he is being pressured into penning a new deal.

"I am not going to talk about my renovation," the 46-year-old stated.

Enrique's contract expires in June and the club will need to look for a replacement soon should the Spaniard continue to stall on a new deal. The former Roma and Celta Vigo manager has so far been unwilling to explain his future intentions until at least April.

Barcelona are currently six points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid, and will have played a game more by the time their match against Villarreal finishes on Sunday. Three draws and a loss in their past 10 league games have seen Barcelona drop off the pace at the top of the table, with Real Madrid winning again on Saturday against Granada to reestablish their firm grip on the league.

Enrique started his managerial career as head coach at Barcelona B, before leaving the post to become the new boss at Roma in 2011. He left after a disappointing spell, taking charge of Celta Vigo for a season before being announced as Gerardo Martino's successor at Barcelona.
