Man Utd confident Jones will get all-clear for European Super Cup Real Madrid clash

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is set to be available for the European Super Cup clash with Real Madrid.

The Daily Star says United have served notice of their intention to appeal his two-match ban for using abusive language to a doping control officer at the Europa League final in May.

They have until Monday evening to submit the actual appeal and have put in a request for “provisional measures" to be triggered - which effectively means Jones can play until his appeal is heard.

UEFA will make a decision on that request on Monday but it appears a formality.

A UEFA spokesman said: “With regards to the two-match suspension issued to Phil Jones, Manchester United have asked for provisional measures in accordance with Article 49 of the UEFA disciplinary regulations.

“The UEFA Appeals Body will take a decision in regards to this matter on August 7."
