Matias Fernandez released by Fiorentina, expected to join Necaxa

Leon picked up their first win of the Apertura as they prevented Necaxa from taking top spot in Liga MX.

Fiorentina have released Matias Fernandez from his contract and the midfielder is expected to complete a move to Mexican outfit Club Necaxa in the coming days.

Fernandez, capped more than 70 times by Chile, moved to La Viola five years ago and went on to make 131 appearances but spent last season on loan at AC Milan after falling out of favour at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Serie A club said on their website: "ACF Fiorentina announces that it has solved the contract with Matias Ariel Fernandez to allow the player to move to Club Necaxa, a member of the Mexican Federation where the summer market window is currently open.''
