Mauricio Pochettino Reveals Which 2 Clubs He Wants to Manage After Tottenham Hotspur Reign

Published on: 17 November 2016

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he only harbours ambitions of managing two other clubs once his time at Totteham Hotspur comes to an end.

The Spurs boss stated that taking up the reins at Argentinian outfit Newell's Old Boys, as well as taking charge of the Argentine national team, are the only two jobs that would definitely appeal to him in the future.

Pochettino told ESPN Argentina: If I come back to Argentina, I would like to coach Newell's Old Boys (his first club) or the Argentine national team. In this, I do not change. And then, I don't know where football will take me.

The 44-year-old's standing in the game has risen rapidly ever since he took up his first managerial position at Espanyol in January 2009, with a spell at Southampton coming inbetween his appointment by the La Liga side and his current job at White Hart Lane.

Such has been the outstanding job that Pochettino has done in north London, there had been calls for the former defender to take charge of the England national side - Pochettino being particularly linked in the wake of Sam Allardyce's sacking - or Manchester United someway down the line.

The 20-time English league champions have seen their stature within the game fall ever so slightly since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson called time on his career at Old Trafford but, despite having dinner with the Scot recently, Pochettino added that he had only met with the 74-year-old to discuss all things manager-related, and not about any possibility of becoming United boss years from now.

He said: I would like to have another chance to have dinner with Sir Alex because he is hard to understand, especially with my English! Those were two very enriching hours, because of who he is and what he transmits, such as his energy, his personality and his character.

These are things I also saw when he was on the sidelines or at a news conference. To know how to reinvent oneself can be done only by people who have enormous talent, as is also the case with Arsene Wenger. You have to recognise that to be in charge for more than 20 years, you have to have special talent.

Current United manager Jose Mourinho has come in for some criticism of his side's fortunes ever since he took up the position in Manchester, with some quarters already speculating that the Portuguese boss is under intense pressure just four months into his new job.

Pochettino, however, believes the 53-year-old just needs time to implement his tactics and philosophy on the club, and that their fortunes would turn around eventually.

He added: "Every time you start a new project, it takes time.In this case, despite the fact that José is one of the best coaches in the world.

"He needs more time to put his ideas in place and for the team to be able to function as he wants. It's too early to pass judgment on things that are happening to teams at the moment."
