Michael Owen Gets Absolutely Rinsed on Twitter After Joking About Former Teammate's Weight

Published on: 07 January 2017

It's fair to say that Michael Owen isn't very liked nowadays. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker was an amazing talent back in his day, but now perhaps not so much.

The Englishman, now a pundit, has often received stick for his absurd comments. And he can't even rib an old teammate without getting criticised.

Owen was on hand at the Bernabeu on Saturday as Cristiano Ronaldo was publicly awarded the Ballon d'Or trophy, having won it himself in 2001. He was joined by former teammates Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Raymond Kopa, and the legend himself, The Phenomenon: Ronaldo Luis Nazario.

Ronaldo has certainly packed on the pounds since retiring from the game. And Owen couldn't resist taking a jab at the Brazilian.

"I thought I was putting the pounds on until I saw my old mate Ronnie!" he tweeted later on.

Well, football fans on Twitter weren't having it, and had a right go at the ex-forward.
