Montella eyes a strong finish

Published on: 18 June 2018

Sevilla head coach Vincenzo Montella has called on his side to make a strong finish to their league season after a Copa del Rey final thrashing by Barcelona.

Los Rojiblancos were swept aside 5-0 by Barca in the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on Saturday evening, leaving Montella to pick his players up for the final five games of their La Liga campaign.

Now we have to end the season in the best way possible so we can play in the Europa League next year.

Sevilla are currently in seventh place in the standings and need to improve by one place to secure a spot in the group stage of the Europa League.

And Montella is ready for the challenge ahead, telling the Spanish media: "A case of mission impossible? Nothing's impossible. We tried, but it was very difficult. Barca were better and we have to accept it.

"Now we have to end our League campaign in Europe and get back to work with mental strength. Will the dressing room lift itself? I think so.

"We'll go back to work this Sunday with more strength and focus. We have to end the season well.

"Reaching a final in Spain is very difficult and we did it, reaching the Champions League quarter-finals too.

"Now we have to end the season in the best way possible so we can play in the Europa League next year."

Sevilla are back in action on Friday evening when they visit Levante, with Montella's side 17/20 to win the game and 9/1 to do so by a 2-0 scoreline, with the draw priced at 11/4.
