My dream is to play in Europe – Colorado Rapids defender Lalas Abubakar

Colorado Rapids towering defender Lalas Abubakar has disclosed that his dream is to play in Europe.

The Ghanaian international is playing his 5th season in the USA Major League Soccer (MLS) after moving to the country in 2014 on a scholarship from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Now regarded as one of the best defenders in the division, Lalas Abubakar is relishing the prospect of playing in any of the top European Leagues.

“Of course when I get the opportunity I will move to Europe. But as you can see the MLS has improved so much this time around. We have top players from Europe who are also playing here.

“For me, my dream is to play in Europe and that dream is still there. For now, I have a contract with my MLS team. If there is a team that is interested in signing me they need to come and buy my rights from the MLS. The only thing I need to do now is to stay focused and continue working”, the former Ghana U-20 defender said in an interview with Accra 100.5 FM.

He added, “But I must say the MLS is a very very good league. It is a tough league just like most of the European leagues so am not worried at all”.

According to the 25-year-old, some European clubs last year expressed interest to secure his services but the Coronavirus pandemic hampered any talks from happening.
