My mind is set on 2021 AFCON; not on salary, bonuses – CK Akonnor

Published on: 20 August 2021

Ghana head coach CK Akonnor has stressed that he is concentrating on the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament and not issues on salaries and bonuses.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the coach had been paid all arrears of eight months unpaid salary.

Other reports also suggested that the coach had not been paid as claimed.

Speaking to the media via an engagement on Zoom on Friday, August 20, 2021, coach CK Akonnor says it is not true.

He however emphasizes that he has his mind set on preparing his team for the 2021 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, not on issues of salary and bonuses.

“My focus is on how we play. The plan is in place for the Ghana FA and the Ministry to settle everything and I think there wouldn’t be any case when it comes to the tournament,” the coach said.

Coach CK Akonnor is expected to guide Ghana to commence the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.

The Black Stars will take on Ethiopia in Ghana before traveling to South Africa to take on the Bafana Bafana.
