My players did not play as a unit - Kotoko gaffer Prosper Narteh Ogum

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has blamed his players for their defeat against Real Tamale United (RTU) in the matchday 25 games of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors were hosted at the Aliu Mahama Stadium and were aiming to extend their lead on the league log.

However, goals from Roland Frimpong and Victor Aidoo gave the home team a two-goal cushion before top scorer Franck Etouga Mbella grabbed a consolation for Kotoko to end the game 2-1.

Speaking after the game, the former WAFA boss said his players did not play as a unit, and failed to go by the instructions given as a result causing their defeat at the Ali Mahama Sports Stadium in their matchday 25 clash.

“I think they [players] lost their focus on the field. Most of the things that they were doing especially with the ball were not the things that they were supposed to do. They were too individualistic on the field; most of the players didn’t play as a unit and as a unit, and I think that actually affected us”, he told StarTimes.

“If you look at the penalty we conceded it was not necessary, the tackle from Asmah was not necessary, and if you look at the way Danlad also came out, it was not necessary because [Samuel] Appiah was with him, so once you had the defender with an attacker yours was to keep your line of movement in line with the ball so that if he misses you can react, and if he gets the ball and he takes the shot at the goal you would be able to save it,” he added.

Asante Kotoko still sit on top of the league log with 52 points despite the defeat. The Reds will lock horns with Legon Cities on Sunday, April 24 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their matchday 26 clash.
