Newcastle United have sent young striker Ivan Toney out on loan to League One side Shrewsbury Town until January.
TheChroniclereported that the Magpies had completed the deal to send the former Northampton Town forward away from Tyneside in an effort to increase the amount of game time Toney gets.
"Shrewsbury is a club that has been after me for a while. I spoke to the manager a week ago and he said he was desperate to get me in because he likes my style of play and he wanted that bit more to add to the team," the newspaper reported the 20-year-old as saying.
This is a good move for both the player and the club and it lets one of the more promising players on Newcastle'sbooks get the minutes on the pitch thathe will need in order to improve as a person and a player.
Spanish boss Rafa Benitez is also keeping on eye out on the future and has had the foresightto include arecall clause in Toney's contract in case hedoes well and is needed to help the promotion push to the Premier League.
"If I am doing well maybe Newcastle will recall me and would need me in their side," revealed the forward.
"But whilst I am here I will be doing a job for Shrewsbury and getting them where they need to be and where they want to be going which is up the league."
HadToney remained with United, his chances of first team football would have been severely limited. With four strikes ahead of the youngsters in the pecking order, the chances of the 20-year-old making the squad, never mind the pitch, were slim.
With Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Adam Armstrong all still in the Toon squad - and rumours of Benitez looking for another striker - Toney was never going to make the starting line up.
This deal is the best situation for both teams and the player. If he does well, there is a recall clause there and Newcastle will be getting a forward back high on confidence and with goals under his belt. If not, then it's a learning curve and Toney will still come out better off.
