The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the appointment of Kwesi Appiah as Black Stars coach.

The decision was taken by the Executive Committee of the GFA on Tuesday after approving the report of the six-man coaching search committee.

Appiah has been handed a two-year contract and will start his duties on 1st May, 2017.

Appiah is making a return to the team just two years after leaving following a disastrous World Cup campaign in Brazil.

The former Asante Kotoko coach has been in Sudan since with Al Khartoum.

His experience with the Black Stars and knowledge of the African game made him a better choice ahead of the Cameroon coach Hugo Broos and former French footballer Willy Sagnol.

Appiah’s tenure was completely mixed, as he failed at the two major tournaments he presided over – the 2013 Cup of Nations and the 2014 world cup – but masterminded hugely impressive qualifying campaigns to both.

The GFA maintains he has ‘grown’ since then and is the right man for job.
