Rams allow Lampard to talk

Derby County have confirmed that they have given Chelsea permission to talk to Frank Lampard about the managerial vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

The vacancy arose after Italian Maurizio Sarri headed home to take charge of Juventus after just season at the helm of the Blues, having led them to Europa League glory and third place in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea great Lampard was appointed by Derby at the end of May last year, signing a three-year contract and leading the Rams to the Championship play-off final - where they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa.

A statement on the Rams' official website confirmed: "Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.

"With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs, it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions."

Lampard scored 211 goals in 648 appearances for Chelsea during his playing career, helping them to three Premier League titles, four FA Cup triumphs and two successes in the League Cup.

He was also a member of the Blues team who won the Champions League for the first time in their history in 2012, as well as lifting the Europa League crown the following season.

Lampard, now 41, also netted 29 times in 106 appearances for England, while he also played club football for West Ham, Manchester City and New York City.

Chelsea, who recently sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid, are 25/1 to win the Premier League title next season, while they are 11/10 to finish in the top four.
