Real Madrid got back to winning ways, beating Alaves 2-1 thanks to two first-half goals from Dani Ceballos.

Zinedine Zidane's side lost 1-0 to Real Betis on Wednesday to leave them adrift of runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona.

But Ceballos, a summer signing from Betis, scored in the 10th and 43rd minutes to give Los Blancos a much-needed three points.

Manuel Garcia's 40th-minute goal temporarily drew Alaves level.

Atletico Madrid moved up to second in La Liga and within a point of Barcelona after beating Sevilla 2-0 at the Wanda Metropilitano stadium.

After a goalless first half, in which both sides had hit the woodwork, Yannick Carrasco opened the scoring in the 46th minute.

Antoine Griezmann sealed the points with Atleti's second in the 69th minute as new signing Diego Costa watched on from the stands.

That result continued Atletico's unbeaten start to the campaign in all competitions but was a first defeat for Sevilla who drop to third place.
