Real still believe in me - Lopetegui

Published on: 28 October 2018

Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui says he still has the full backing of his players as they gear up for Sunday's El Clasico with Barcelona.

Los Blancos head to their fiercest rivals in desperate need of a pick me up after back-to-back defeats to Alaves and Levante in La Liga.

Those losses have left them five points adrift of leaders Atletico Madrid and they are currently 4/1 to win a 34th Spanish title.

Real's bad start to the season has resulted in Lopetegui's position coming under intense pressure and there are strong rumours he will be sacked after Sunday's game.

Lopetegui was only handed the job during the summer after Zinedine Zidane stepped down and says he's not ready to give up on his dream of working at the Bernabeu, insisting he and the rest of the squad are ready for the fight.

"They believe in me and I believe in them," Lopetegui said.

"And that goes to show that we are working well and working hard, and have the motivation to please our fans. We are heading (to Barcelona) with the maximum ambition."

Real have been boosted by the news Marcelo should be fit to feature after sitting out the Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen in midweek.

Isco is a doubt for the reigning European champions after surgery to remove his appendix last month.

The good news for Real is that they will not have to face Barcelona ace Lionel Messi, he will miss the game with a fractured arm.

Los Blancos have not lost on their last four trips to the Nou Camp and are 11/4 to get a win on Sunday. Barcelona are 19/20 and the draw is 11/4.
