Arsenal talisman Mesut Ozil has been slammed by ex-France nationalboss Raymond Domenechover his defensive contributions - or lack thereof.

Domenech, whomanaged Les Bleus between 2004 and 2010, has been quoted by Get French Football lambasting Ozil as being 'lazy'.

Raymond Domenech on Mesut Özil: "As soon as there is physicality involved, he disappears. If he has to track back, he doesn't do it." (EdS)

He said: "As soon as there is physicality involved, he disappears. If he has to track back, he doesn't do it."

The 64-year-old made his scathing comment before Arsenal took on PSG in their fifth match of the Champions League group stage. This time out, Ozil failed to make the attacking impact that would have seen the Gunners top their group going into the final game.

As things currently stand, Arsenal could now face any one of Barcelona, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Monaco or Napoli in the last 16, should PSG beat Bulgarianminnows Ludogorets.

Arsenal fans will not take kindly to Domenech's comments, given the player's overall contributions in front of goal this season.

The former Real Madrid star arrived at the Emirates in a dramatic £42.5m move in 2013. He drew some criticism in the early stages of his Arsenal career relating to his 'impact in the big games' - but the German international has reached heroic statusin theeyes of theGunners faithful in recent times, cementing himself as one of world football's top creative talents.

This season has seen him add more goals to his game, as well as maintaininghis usualhigh rate of chance creation.

The comments of astrology fan Domenech are unlikely to resonate with Arsenal fans, who will be quick to remember France's shambolic World Cup campaign in 2010.

With Domenec at the helm, France infamously capitulated; the dismissal of Nicholas Anelka from the squad and atraining ground bust-up involving Patrice Evra and a trainer weretwo of the tournament's most memorable incidents. Oh and they alsofailed to win a single game.
