Romelu Lukaku's New Everton Contract in Doubt After His Latest Comments on Belgian TV

Published on: 12 March 2017

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku looked all set to commit his long-term future to the club earlier this month - indeed, the player's agent Mino Raiola said in December that a deal was '99.9% done', and insisted again in February that fresh terms at Goodison Park would be signed.

But given Lukaku's latest comments on his future, suddenly there are doubts.

Romelu Lukaku isn't yet ready to sign his new contract. Or that's what he told @playsports after West Brom. Let's see what happens. #efc pic.twitter.com/vO18BVN3V5

The powerhouse striker, who has scored seven goals in his last five appearances and is considered by some to be the most complete centre forward in the Premier League, told Belgian outlet PlaySports 'No' when asked if he was going to sign the new contract.

Are you going to sign that new contract?
- Lukaku: "No."
Are you still reflecting about it?
- RL: "No."
Is there an agreement?

He gave the same answer when asked if he was still thinking about the offer, and again when the reporter asked if there was even an agreement in place.

Whether or not Lukaku - who won't turn 24 years of age until the final week of the season - is serious remains to be seen -he likes to joke around and only time will tell what his intentions are.

What it has done, though, is sparked intrigue from fans of other Premier League clubs.

Hazard running down the line here crosses into the box lukakkkku one nil Chelsea Romelu Lukaku against his former side. It's gonna happen.

With a known desire to play in the Champions League one day, Lukaku has been heavily linked with a return to former club Chelsea since the summer. Diego Costa's future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain and the former Anderlecht prodigy would be seen as a perfect like-for-likereplacement.

Rumours about a possible switch to Manchester United have died down, but Raiola already has strong ties to Old Trafford after securing deals for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan last summer.

I would love Lukaku at this club.

The future of Ibrahimovic beyond his initial 12 month contract could determine whether United chase a 'number nine' type of player at the end of the season.
