Ronald Koeman Admits Romelu Lukaku Is Too Good to Stay at Everton & Needs to Join a 'Bigger Club'

Everton manager Ronald Koeman believes star striker Romelu Lukaku would 'not have made the most of his career' if he does not fulfil his potential by moving to a bigger club, the Dutchman told Belgian publication HLN.

The 23-year-old Belgium international has been in fine form in front of goal for the Toffees in recent seasons; scoring seven goals in nine Premier League appearances so far this season to go with the 25 he scored during the last campaign.

His goalscoring form has seen him constantly linked with a big money move away from Goodison Park, with former side Chelsea being one of a number of top European sides credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.

And his current club manager, Koeman, believes Lukaku has the potential to emulate Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert and could even join European heavyweights Barcelona like the former Ajax star.

"Lukaku has the potential to become an amazing striker. He is still only 23 years old and is only getting better," the former Southampton boss told HLN, as quoted byGoal.com.

"I think his finishing is very good. He keeps his calm and is one of the best I have ever seen - both as a player and as a coach - when it comes to making that final decision in front of goal. His attacking movement is great. I think he can still contribute more defensively.

"I think he can emulate Patrick Kluivert, who also rose to prominence at a young age and enjoyed a fantastic career. He eventually played for Barcelona and I can see Lukaku doing the same.

"Everton should normally not be the end for him. Romelu will not have made the most of his career if he plays for Everton for the remainder of his career. He has the potential to play for a bigger club than Everton.

"But nobody knows what will happen after this season. We have a good relationship."
