Former Hearts of Oak hard tackling defender, Samuel Johnson has slammed the standard of play in the ongoing Premier league.

The Ghana Premier league has been surrounded with a series of question marks, but due to its keenly nature and the points difference between the top four clubs on the log, hardly has it been quizzed on the standard of display as it reaches its peak.

Neverthelss, Samuel Johnson, popularly known as ‘Foyoo’ believes the quality of play from teams in the elite Division leaves much to be desired.

“I always feel as a country like Ghana we can do more in terms of play and more especially when it comes to our top Division. The argument we can say is that this has been a little bit exciting than last season, but when you compare our league to some other African countries which I think are not on our footballing-wise level, I think we can do a bit more,” the ex-Fenerbahce player told Happy FM.

“A country like Ghana needs to do more to get out from our current standard and I don’t think it only behoves on the FA to help achieve this aim. I think the clubs themselves can do for our football to elevate to a greater height, but if we decide to place every burden on the FA, then it becomes a problem.”

“Personally I can say that when I first played in the Premier League, our football was already going down, however by then there was so much money in it because people were much interested in it, but it was still going down and now I can confidently say it’s dead.”

Wa All-stars lead the pack on the league table with 45 points from 26 games, as Aduana stars 44, Hearts of Oak 42 and Asante Kotoko 41 points make up the top 4 of the 2016 GPL season.
