Former Ghana and Bayern Munich defender, Sammy Kuffour, has revealed that Lothar Matthaus is investing in Accra Lions due to the talents in Ghana.

The Ghana Premier League side on Tuesday officially unveiled the former FIFA World Player of the Year as one of three new owners of the Ghana Premier League side, with the ex-player now boasting the majority stake in the club.

Kuffour, who played alongside Lothar, detailed the rationale behind the World Cup winner coming to Ghana.

“I feel blessed to know [Lothar Matthaus] as a person and also for him to come to Ghana,” he told Joy Sports.

“There are so many opportunities that they could go to any other country [but] they chose Ghana. That tells you there is something here that we have to take care of.”

Having secured majority shares in Accra Lions, Lothar promised that he is going to be on a regular visit to Ghana at least five times a year.

The Bayern Munich legend also adds that he will be more concerned about the development and improvement of young talents that will come through the club rather than focus on just their performance in the league.
