Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyeman has urged the government and the Ghana FA to give coach Sellas Tetteh his package so that he can use it to take care of himself.
Tetteh, who has been unwell for some time, disclosed to Sports Obama TV in an interview last month that he has been chasing the GFA and Ministry of Sports for bonuses owed him since 2009.
At the 2009 African Youth Championship, Tetteh served as Ghana's head coach. He helped the Ghana under-20 team win the competition for the first time since 1999, qualifying them for the World Cup.
The Ghana under-20 squad was led to the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup by Tetteh, making them the first African side to triumph in the tournament. Tetteh thus received the Sports Writers Association of Ghana Coach of the Year Award and the CAF Coach of the Year Award.
“We the playing body we don’t have a contract with the FA it is the technical team they have contract with the FA. So what I will say is that I don’t know the contract the coach has with the FA. The package the government did for us if the technical team has a copy then I can say that there is an insurance component in it that should take care of the coach," he said on Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com
"But the monetary aspect they said it is 15 years. And the 15 years is not even up so we were begging them that if the 15 years is not up if it is possible that they can give it to the person then person use it to take care of himself like we were pleading to see. But in the package they gave us there is an insurance component in it that if there is any sickness the insurance should take care of the person. That is why I am saying if the coaches they did the same thing for them like us then I think this should take care of the issue,”
