Ghanaian international, Shafiu Mumuni has emerged as the top-performing player at the just ended 2019 WAFU Cup of Nation tournament following his impressive showing for his side.

The Obuasi Ashanti Gold striker captained the Black Stars B team to the WAFU tournament which was staged in Senegal.

The forward performed at the top level and helped his side to sail through the various stages and into the finals where they were sadly beaten on penalties by the host nation.

En route to the final, Shafiu Mumuni scored four goals, three of which came in a single match.

He scored his first goal of the tournament in Ghana’s second match when they drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso. The team later won on penalties to secure progression to the semi-finals.

At that stage, the inspiring captain bagged a sensational hat-trick against Cote d’Ivoire, setting a record as the first player to do so at the WAFU tournament.

His goal-scoring prowess together with his leadership skills on the field of play has distinguished him as the top-performing player at the tournament as he beat the likes of Guinea's Moustet, Senegal’s Assane Mbodj, as well as Mali’s Mamaye Coulibaly.
