Solskjaer: United is in my heart

Published on: 19 December 2018

Manchester United have named Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker boss until the end of the season 24 hours after parting company with Jose Mourinho.

The 45-year-old Norwegian, who scored 126 goals for United between 1996 and 2007, is currently enjoying his second spell in charge of Molde in his homeland.

Molde finished second in the Eliteserien behind Rosenborg in the season just ended and the 2019 campaign is not scheduled to start until March.

Solskjaer scored United's winner in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in 1999.

He has some Premier League managerial experience as he was the Cardiff City boss for eight months in 2014 when the Bluebirds were relegated from the top-flight.

United are sixth in the Premier League table after slumping to a 3-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday and 14/1 to finish in the top four this term.

Solskjaer's first game in charge of United will be against his former team Cardiff on Saturday. United are 11/20 to beat Neil Warnock's side and 12/1 to win the match 3-0.

Solskjaer, who will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, working alongside Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna, said: "Manchester United is in my heart and it's brilliant to be coming back in this role. I'm really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club."

Meanwhile, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: "Ole is a club legend with huge experience, both on the pitch and in coaching roles.

"His history at Manchester United means he lives and breathes the culture here and everyone at the club is delighted to have him and Mike Phelan back. We are confident they will unite the players and the fans as we head into the second half of the season."

Meanwhile, Laurent Blanc is 6/1 to be the Next Man Utd Manager on 01/09/2019 and Solskjaer can be backed at 2/1.
