Southampton attacking midfielder Dusan Tadic may require surgery after injuring his nose on Saturday.

Tadic, who was playing for Serbia during their 1-1 World Cup qualifierdraw with Wales, was on the wrong side of an accidentalkick to the face from Wales defender Neil Taylor as the two players competed for the ball.

The former Twente playmaker managed to complete the game despite requiring medical attention, and, according to theDaily Echo, he may require nose surgery.

The collision occurred just before half-time, with Taylor making clear contact with Tadic, causing a cut to the Serbian's face. Taylor escaped without a caution as Serbia grabbed a point in the second half thanks to Newcastle United's Aleksandar Mitrovic, who headed in to cancel out Gareth Bale's earlier strike.

The result leaves Wales in third, two points behind Serbia and four behind the Republic of Ireland, who beat Austria to go top of the group.

Tadic's Southampton are currently in 10th place in the Premier League, a point behind Burnley and level on points with West Brom and Stoke. They are also set to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League, sitting in second, two points ahead of leaders Sparta Prague.

It is not yet known whether Tadic will be ruled out of action for any period of time, and should the surgery prove successful, the 27-year-old could be back in action for the Saints in their Premier League gameagainst Liverpool next weekend.

Like players such as Diego Costa and Harry Kane before him, Tadic may be forced to wear a protective mask due to his injury.
