Special Competition: Why goalkeeper Ben Mensah got the nod over Richmond Ayi - Heart coach Kim Grant

Hearts of Oak coach Kim Grant has explained why goalkeeper Ben Mensah got the nod over in-form Richmond Ayi following their 5-4 defeat on penalties to Asante Kotoko in the semi-final of the GFA Normalisation Committee Special Competition at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Grant has come under immense pressure after he dropped his first choice goalkeeper Richmond Ayi to the bench in favour of Benjamin Mensah as the Phobians lost on penalties to the Porcupine Warriors after Christopher Bonney and Abdul Fatawu Safiu had scored for their respective clubs after the 90 minutes.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Nhyira FM in an exclusive interview the former Ghana international said, "Benjamin Mensah is a very experienced goalkeeper and he has played such games before."

"Ayi (Richmond) took it very well. I don't have issues with him. He's a fantastic goalkeeper. He has many years ahead of him. Possibly, maybe if we had played in the final, he would have been in the goal post."

"It was a decision I made. I thought Ben did very well. He didn't make any mistake about the goal. And unfortunately, Kotoko took great five penalties," he added.
