The Sports Ministry has issued a statement clarifying the payment of $3 million to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for its role as the official broadcaster of the 13th African Games.

Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif initially disclosed at the Public Accounts Committee that over $3 million had been paid to GBC. However, the Director General of GBC later stated that only $105,000 was received.

In response, the Sports Ministry detailed the payment structure in a press release. According to the statement signed by Hon. Mustapha Ussif, GBC received $2.5 million directly in tranches—$1 million on March 13, 2024, and $1.5 million on May 22, 2024. Additionally, $1 million was paid to third parties as instructed by GBC, in line with their contract.

The 13th African Games, hosted by Ghana from March 8 to 23, 2024, utilized two major venues: the Borteyman Sports Complex for indoor sports and the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The clarification aims to address the discrepancies in the reported payments and provide transparency regarding the financial transactions between the Sports Ministry and GBC.
