Stephen Appiah admits he had difficulty settling in Italy

Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah reminisced the difficulty he faced in adjusting to life in Italy after securing an opportunity to play there.

The 39 year old earned the chance to move to Udinese in 1997 after showing promise at Hearts of Oak.

In an interview with Nathaniel Attoh on the Joy Sports Link on Saturday, he remember the challenges he faced when he arrived in Italy.

"In Italy, it was very difficult settling in. I was eating just bread and ice cream because I had never seen pizza and pasta before. I also couldn't speak Italian then."

He also recounted how cold he felt when he landed in Milan.

"When I landed in Milan, everyone was looking at me because it was so cold and I was wearing just a t-shirt."

The midfielder had a successful spell in Italy, featuring for Udinese, Parma, Brescia and Juventus before moving to Turkey.
