Stoke forward Walters rescues point for Repulic of Ireland

Published on: 12 June 2017

Stoke City attacker Jon Walters struck a late equaliser to ensure Ireland would not leave their World Cup qualifier with Austria empty handed.

Austria opened the scoring after 31 minutes when Martin Hinteregger connected on Bayern Munich star David Alaba's corner.

And It looked like Martin O'Neill's side would suffer a rare home defeat until the Potters star popped up late to score.

After a long ball was heaved up the ground by West Ham keeper Darren Randolph, Walters beat out Austrian defender Alexsandar Dragovic to fire home a sublime volley.

The goal marks Walters fifth in seven home qualifiers for the Republic.
