Stoke City manager Mark Hughes was pleased with his side's tactics after their 1-0 win over Watford on Sunday.

Heurelho Gomes' own goal gave Stoke all three points, with the side looking relatively comfortable throughout the whole of the game against a unimaginative Watford team.

Speaking toSky Sportsafter the game, Hughes was pleased to see his game-plan work as his side picked up a deserved win.

"We were a little bit stretched in terms of personnel. We had to reorganise. I thought we worked really well and made it happen, I think that was the key. To a man they ran and made it work," the former Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers manager stated.

"I don't think they were expecting our shape and how comfortable we were in possession.

"In the first half I thought our football dominated and in the second we had to withstand some long balls.

"You can have a cunning plan but if the guys don't embrace it then it isn't going to work.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri seemed to forget his post-match handshake with Hughes, and the Stoke boss seemed to take issue with the Italian's conduct

"I think he just forgot for a brief moment what we do here. You offer your hand win, lose or draw. In fairness he came and apologised but I think he was told to."

Stoke have now won four of their last six Premier League games, and are now five points clear of the relegation zone. The host Burnley in their next league match next Saturday.
