Sturridge given hope at Anfield

Published on: 15 July 2018

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that striker Daniel Sturridge may yet have a future at Anfield after impressing in pre-season.

The forward left Liverpool on loan last season, going to West Brom but only made six appearances for the Baggies who were relegated.

At the moment it's all good and we don't have to make decisions. I don't think about my players like this.

Now back on Merseyside Sturridge faces an uncertain future, especially with Liverpool's forward line of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino having been so prolific last season.

He has been linked with a move away with Sevilla and Besiktas rumoured to be interested. However, for now he remains a Liverpool player and has been one of their better players in early pre-season with many players still away following the World Cup.

Klopp said, after his team drew away at League Two side Bury: "It's no problem. I always said there is a future, it's about what we do in the moment.

"At the moment it's all good and we don't have to make decisions. I don't think about my players like this - like, maybe he's in or out.

"With the young ones we make these decisions but not with the other guys. They show up, and it should be easy for me in the end."

The game at Bury saw first pre-season appearances from Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip while new signing Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke will join the squad which flies out to the United States later this month with fixtures planned against Manchester City, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.

They then face Napoli in Dublin and Torino at Anfield before beginning the new Premier League season at home to West Ham on 12th August.

Liverpool are 5/1 to win the Premier League title in 2018-19 with Manchester City 4/7. The Reds are 1/4 to finish in the top four while Arsenal, under a new manager in Unai Emery are 2/1.
