Support Samuel Boadu ahead of the CAF Confederations Cup campaign - Dong Bortey pleads with Hearts of Oak hierarchy

Bernard Don Bortey, Hearts of Oak legend has called on the leadership of the club to stick to Samuel Boadu despite a torrid campaign in the just-ended 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

Boadu, having led the club to win a domestic treble during the 2020/21 season has come under intense pressure after finishing 6th with 48 points.

Board Member of the side, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has been critical of the coach and has called for his dismissal after a poor season.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also doubts Boadu’s ability to lead the club in Africa as they prepare to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Last season, the Phobians suffered humiliating defeats in CAF interclub competitions. They were defeated 6-2 on aggregate by Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the Champions League before being beaten 4-2 on aggregate by JS Saoura of Algeria in the Confederation Cup.

Bortey, on the other hand, has high hopes for Boadu and has urged the club to back him.

“Unless the coach [Samuel Boadu] wishes to leave his position, I will advise Hearts to keep him for the African campaign and next season,” Bortey told Accra-based Onua FM.

“Jones Attuquayefio had plenty of time at Hearts of Oak to excel. So, give Boadu time to assemble a formidable team for Hearts and focus on Africa," he added.

Hearts of Oak are set to begin pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 Ghana football season.
