“There are no minnows in Africa anymore" - CK Akonnor warns Black Stars ahead of Ethiopia clash

Ghana coach CK Akonnor has warned his side not to underrate Ethiopia ahead of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The Black Stars are in Group G of the qualifying tournament, alongside South Africa, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe.

Ghana will get their World Cup qualification underway on Friday when they come up against Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium.

"There are no minnows in Africa anymore," coach Akonnor told FIFA.com

"Each and every country dreams of appearing at the World Cup, and the likes of Zimbabwe and Ethiopia won’t leave anything to chance. That’s why we have to work really hard. I believe in the team we have and I know we’ll make it against these teams."

He added, "We need to start the qualifiers well, so this is a game we must win. Fortunately for us, we’re starting at home, but the fans will be expecting a big win from us. We’re not going to leave anything to chance. We’re quite confident about our capabilities as a team, but it’s equally important to keep an eye on our opponents."

"We know how quick they are in the transition, how they like to play attractive possession football, and the cohesion they have as a result of most of the team playing in their domestic league. We’ll be ready for them. We need to take advantage and consolidate our gains. We’ll be aiming for the three points and a decent scoreline."
