TIER 1: Ashgold 3-1 Kotoko - Miners bully Porcupine Warriors to progress into final

Obuasi Ashanti Gold has impressively defeated Regional rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium to progress into the final of the tier 2 of the GFA Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition.

Having already booked a place in the final of the tier 1 competition, the Porcupine Warriors were hoping to advance to another final to ensure they win the double at the end of the Special Competition.

At the end of the 90 minutes earlier this afternoon, however, the Miners expertly dispatched the Kumasi based club to earn a ticket to the final of the tier 2 competition.

Kotoko took the lead as early as the 2nd minute through striker Naby Keita before Yussif Mubarak restored parity for the victors with a fine header. Constant pressure on Kotoko in search of an equalizer paid off for the Obuasi side on the 30th minute when Emmanuel Owusu headed in a second goal.

All efforts to find a way back into the match proved futile for CK Akonnor’s men. Unfortunately for them, Ashgold dragged the game beyond their reach on the 55th minute when Mark Agyekum found the back of the net to cement a historic victory for his side.

Following the resounding victory, Ashgold has booked a date with Nzema Kotoko for the final after they also beat UniStar Academy in the other semi-final match.
