Kumasi Asante Kotoko have called off their plans to sign Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala from URA FC, Kickgh has reported

It emerged that the Ghana Premier League side have agreed a four year deal with the forward and will join the club for pre-season this week.

However, a fresh has revealed that the deal has been called off due to disagreement between both clubs.

Mukwala was expected to undergo a mandatory medical examination before joining the Ghanaian giants for a proposed preseason tour in Dubai this month but the deal has been called off.

Asante Kotoko of following the sale of Kwame Opoku to USM Alger last season struggled to find the back of the net and with Prosper Narteh Ogum in charge as the head coach identified the Ugandan as a striker who could help solve the goalscoring woes ahead of the 2021/22 football season.

Mukwala in 2019 was loaned at Maroons FC for the new season 2019-2020 where he has scored 13 goals in 22 matches to clinch the 2019/20 Uganda Premier League golden boot award.

His speed and power to finish the ball caught the attention of several clubs last year including Asante Kotoko but Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) won the race to acquire him on a two-year deal with an option of renewal.

He ended the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season as the top scorer of Uganda Rivers Authority (URA FC) after notching fourteen (14) goals in 24 matches.

Mukwala is currently a member of the senior national team of Uganda.

Asante Kotoko have been busy on the transfer market aiming for strategic signings after finishing third last season with no trophy.

Asante Kotoko have already signed eight players namely Clinton Opoku, Richmond Lamptey, Maxwell Agyemang, Samuel Boateng, Isaac Oppong, Richard Boadu, Augustine Agyapong and Samuel Appiah.
