Victor Anichebe Pokes Fun at Footballers' Twitter After Starring Role in Sunderland Win

Published on: 05 November 2016

Footballers may have hundreds of thousands, even millions, of followers on Twitter, but their posts are frequently bog-standard and dull.

Messages after matches are generally formulaic, praising the side's effort and thanking fans for their great support, and not many fans onTwitter gain much pleasure from seeing a footballer endorse a product or talk about innocuous activities.

Given the often boring nature of footballers in the media, it's good to see someone like Victor Anichebe happy enough to poke fun of himself, having previously fallen victim to ridicule after copy-pasting a Twitter message earlier in the season.

Anichebe played a starring role in Sunderland's first Premier League win of the season, scoring a goaland winning a penalty in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth.

He took to Twitter after the game to 'thank' Sunderland fans, and given that the 28-year-old Nigerian international played a pivotal role in earning the Black Cats their first league win of the season it's hard to see Sunderland fans getting too upset over the post, especially as it is a pretty funny post.

The win hasn't lifted David Moyes side off the bottom of the Premier League table, but the performance will give fans fresh hope of potentially beating the drop this season.
